A bit of order in this mess

I've been more active than I expected, lately. And the constant flow of "work in progress" posts is a bit of a mess. So, to improve the navigation (hopefully), I have created 3 permanent pages to serve as compendia, that you can access from the menu on the right. They will be updated on an arbitrary, random basis.

Currently, the "work in progress" posts that do not have enough comments/explanations are not indexed. You can find them by searching for the posts with the label WIP. "WIP" posts with enough comments are indexed with the tutorials.

Other things, more random, are not indexed for the moment. I may add new categories depending on the inspiration.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (13)

Cracks. It's a bit of a recurring current problem. It's not so bad, but I'm trying to figure out the potential cause(s). At least, it takes only a little hour to fill so many (and so large) cracks, so it's no big deal all in all.

Behold he who crushes mountains!

Enjoy. Loud.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (12)

The sculpt is done! Tomorrow, it goes into the oven, and then straight to the undercoat. I'm still unsure about the colour scheme, as well as the potential detailing. We'll see...

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (11)

Beginning of the hammers. They should be finished tomorrow afternoon, hopefully. Ready to hammer mountains for the fun of it!

Comin' to a pit fight near you.

Check out Northless. They're not heavy, they're heaviness.
What doesn't crush you makes you flatter.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (10)

Moving forward! The deadline is approaching, and I still have to paint it. So I think that I'll mostly keep it as it is. The naked warrior! So damned dumb that he doesn't really even know if he's got clothes on or not.

I still have to make the two weapons he's carrying for fighting. The mini also requires an extensive work of smoothing almost everywhere. Maybe I'll do some of it after the baking, it may be easier in some areas. I'm not yet convinced to keep the hair on top of his head. It actually looks better on the pics than in reality (a bit too long). And I won't re-do the whole thing (not really because of the time needed, but more because this kind of decision typically involves regrets afterwards). The best thing is to sleep over it.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (9)

A seemingly minor update as the changes are not obvious. The dude's got new feet, almost finished. It also has the beginning of hands. And I have also smoothed and removed little defects here and there on the volumes of the abdomen. Next time, I'll go on with the hands: better define the length of the fingers (that are way too long for the moment, reshape the visible parts of the palms, add the thumbs, etc... It will be a bit long, but once it's done, it's another big step that will be over, opening the way to the head, and then to the weapons and the (very) few details.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (8)

Overexposed pictures of the update, after 3 evenings of work. It does not seem like it has moved a lot, but I did progress on the legs and on the arms (except the feet and the hands), as well as on adjusting volumes here and there. Some parts are almost finished but still need refinement. Anyway, I will also have to take some shortcuts on this one, and to accept some faults here and there, as the deadline is coming closer.

At least the good news is that I'm working on it, and enjoying it. For the first time in a long series, I'm avoiding the long miniature-less period that usually follows a Painting Crusade.

Tomorrow, I'll refine what I did on the legs and arms, and move forward on the feet and, hopefully, the hands too. It's taking shape and I'm happy about it, although it's crappy. :)

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (7)

Back to business with a small update. But at least, there is an update! I've thickened the legs (the knees are still missing volumes on the sides), reshaped a bit the implantation of the legs and the butt, added embryos of hands, started refining the shape of the forearms and made some small corrections here and there.

I'm almost done with the volumes. For the details, the problem is I don't really know yet how I will "dress" it. It will probably be minimalist. Maybe mostly naked, to go for some sort of tribal warrior. We'll see! I still have 2 weeks before the deadline of the challenge: I will probably need the coming 7 days to finish the sculpture. The painting will have to be quick.

Painting Crusade XII : afterthoughts and behind the scenes

Seems like a long article is coming. After all the promotion I made on this blog, the least I can do is to write something about PC XII.

Temporary packaging for the Skull Vato

Here's the final outcome. I've still worked on it for an evening, trying to improve the handwritten lettering. I didn't yet find the time to make a clean transfer from the paper to the picture softwares, so I finally gave up for now, and opted for the good old computer fonts.

The actual paper will be folded in the middle, so that it will be a double-sided 100x70mm "card" in the end, inserted in the plastic bag with the mini. It's as sober as soberness can be (at least coming from me), and when you're talking about cheesy gangsta-inspired toyesque miniatures. I may actually add small spontaneous handwritten drawings/letterings with each outgoing copy (provided that I would actually sell one, of course :D ). We'll see!

I'm not really happy about it for the moment, but that's the cost for waiting until the last minute... I need to stop wasting time on it for now, as I already have enough to do to finish preparing PCXII, and to move on my entry for the Pit Fighter Challenge. I haven't touched it in two days already, so I lost the nice momentum of the last update.

Working around the Skull Vato

I will carry with me the couple the fewcopies of the Skull Vato! that are for sale, at the next Painting Crusade. Let's face it, the chances I would sell a single copy are rather small. Yet, I just got obsessed with the idea of working on some sort of light "packaging" for them, in the form of a little leaflet to be put into the plastic bag. So tonight I just set randomly on a piece of paper the elements I thought may get on this leaflet.

Here's the current outcome after roughly cleaning and assembling the selected elements. I will get it printed to check what it actually looks like at the right size, and see what should be improved (and if maybe I should rather forget the idea for now). By just looking at the numerical version, I already have 1 or 2 ideas to try and improve it. The left side at least, it sucks.

Pit Fighter Challenge: WIP (6)

I hadn't touched it since the last update, because of the preparation of the Painting Crusade. I got back to it this afternoon and this evening, and started moving on the volumes of the lower limbs and of the head. I initially planned to also start the volumes of the hands, so that I would have a first iteration of all the volumes. It will be the next step.

I don't know yet if I'll keep thin legs or if I'll thicken them (more like the best of show trophy of PC XII - yeah I can't help mentioning it, talk about savage commercial...).
