Of course, Painting Crusade XII has a trailer!

Thanks to Peter Jackson for begging us to let him do a trailer for Painting Crusade XII. All for free. The PC team supports amateur film makers.

Next year, we'll have a banner printed on the moon.

... and once you're done watching, go prepare your display for the contest!

Painting Crusade XII exclusive minis!

Sorry you non-french-speaking guyz & gurlz, translating this stuff would be pointless!

Here are the exclusive minis made available during the next Painting Crusade. Like for preceding editions, it is 100% made by the organizers (and that's easy to see :p ), it's a very limited edition and 100% exclusive. Without mentioning the moderately good taste. ^^

And a quick reminder: last year's exclusive minis enter a special category in the painting contest!

So come and relax your brush at the PC on next March 7 and 8!

P.S.: for those who cannot be there on Saturday, you can enter the contest up to noon (12PM) on Sunday.

And now, the cores. I start with a rough sketch to have an idea of the actual volumes and how they are placed with respect to the armature. The cores aim at:

- easing the application of the clay by creating large and stiff surfaces over which it can be laid firmly,

- creating an inner volume of large parts (like the head, the torso and the pelvis), so that when you shape them with fresh clay, it does not tend to deform everything and ultimately to tear the clay from the armature (it brings robustness from the inside, much like the core of a fruit).

- give an early vision of the volumes and of the dynamics of the mini, and directions for expanding the volumes further.

This approach mostly makes sense if you bake the cores before starting creating the actual volumes.

For more general considerations related to the armature and to the cores, refer to this post.

And now, for something completely different...

I just came to realize that 20 years of plastic, metal, resin, paint and putty have passed. Damn! I don't know why, but it seems the right moment to write about my early days. Not that it really matters, that it means something special or whatever... just for the simple pleasure of telling a story, the kind that we can all relate to somehow, as we have all started somewhere.
